Description of the Study:

Older Asian Americans, particularly Korean Americans, experience higher levels of depressive symptoms than other Asian subgroups. Chronic health conditions are strongly associated with psychological distress; however, culturally appropriate mental health services for this population remain limited. Stress management is a crucial component of chronic disease self-management and has the potential to mitigate disease progression and reduce the risk of comorbid conditions. The overarching goal of this project is to understand the needs and preferences of older Korean Americans living with chronic health conditions to inform the development of a culturally responsive, evidence-based mindfulness-based intervention (“iMindful”) that enhances chronic disease self-management and psychological well-being.
