Research Assistant Professor

Dawn Hyosin Kim is a health services researcher whose expertise centers on population-based research of healthcare quality, utilization, and experiences for older adults with serious illnesses including Alzheimers’ disease and related dementias. Her research program aims to improve services and support for Asian older adults and other underserved populations through systematic changes in healthcare delivery.

Description of the study:

Leveraging nationally representative Medicare Health Outcomes Survey data, this project examines (1) differences in clinician-patient discussions about physical activity among Asian and other racial and ethnic groups with memory problems, and (2) variation in these discussions within disaggregated Asian ethnic groups. It further qualitatively explores barriers and facilitators to effective health-promotion discussions about health from the perspectives of Asian Medicare Advantage enrollees. Findings will help identify Asian ethnic groups with limited access to physical activity counselling and generate actionable evidence to guide future interventions.
