Jia Yin Ruan is a Postdoctoral Associate at the New York University Rory Meyers College of Nursing. She earned her PhD in nursing from Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2024. Dr. Ruan’s research focuses on aging and dementia caregiving, qualitative and mixed-methods in health research, Chinese and Chinese American health and well-being, and innovative interventions for sleep heath and integrative health.

Description of the study:

Caring for a family member with late-stage dementia is extremely challenging, including for Chinese American family caregivers. However, few studies have specifically explored this area. Building on this gap, Dr. Ruan’s current CAHPE P50 pilot project, “Experiences of being Chinese American family caregivers of people with late-stage dementia: A qualitative study,” aims to illuminate the experiences, challenges, and needs for these caregivers. This study will contribute to a deeper understanding of late-stage dementia caregiving, identify related challenges and unmet needs, and provide a theoretical foundation for the future development of targeted interventions to support family caregivers.
